socialize with social guys ...

OK, guys, by now you should know the drill: the Hotel Northampton, starting around 6, running til 8. Go home after work, freshen up, and come on by to hang out with lots of guys from all over Western Mass, upper CT, and lower VT. The last two Social Hours have been a blast, and each time it gets better. (Last time, we even had a nice complimentary spread of appetizers and floating waitstaff.) Many thanks to Doug Fountain for his continuing efforts to give us our own local event, and to bring together a bunch of guys from all over. See you there!

let's take a moment to
get to know monoho,
shall we?

     1. just what is "monoho" ?

Monoho is a social group for all gay men in western Mass
and areas beyond. (It is not only for men in Northampton.)

Monoho (see handy pronunciation guide below) is an ever-expanding--ahem!--social group for gay men who live, work and play in and around western Massachusetts. While Northampton serves as the center, there are many activities in neighboring towns and cities, not only western Mass, but also in southern Vermont, upstate New York, Springfield MA & Hartford CT.

     2. what area does monoho cover ?

While monoho centers around Northampton, it also covers
gay events in western Mass and other areas beyond!

Yes, I know "noho" is in the name, bad call maybe, but that's only because this is where the group actually started. It's like having a baby: you get to name it what you want. (Granted, Gwyneth--left to her own devices--chose to name her baby "Apple," so maybe there really should be a committee for these things ...)
And, yes, it's true, a lot of the events we feature happen here in town, but you will also notice that there are many listings for Springfield, or Turners Falls, or Hartford CT, or even the occasional event up in Brattleboro. (Granted, New Haven has quite a bit of stuff as well, but it's a little too far ... maybe someone needs to start "moneha.")
Think of it as a radius: we peek outside our door first, then down the block, then the next town over, etc. (You get it. You're all very clever people.) But do keep in mind that we rely on you to let us know about new things that are happening anywhere in Western Mass, upper CT, lower VT, or even occasionally in New Hampshire or upstate New York. Don't see something here that you know the guys would love? Well, good god, let me know!

3.
me talk pretty one day:
how the heck do you pronounce 'monoho' ?

ANSWER: Monoho is pronounced "muh NO ho" !

That's it, just a very simple but exceedingly important emphasis on the second syllable. (As you know, there are websites for just about everything, but if you are a ho with mono--sorry--this is not the site for you!) So, anyway, simply breeze through that first "m" sound and then just get on with it. Done properly, it will come out like "m' NO! ho."
I'm afraid--from directly observed sputs and stutterings--that our poor little name sees more butchering than a meat-packing district. But, with a tiny bit of effort, it's really not that hard. Practice it a few times at home and then you will be able to compose with confidence some wonderful phrases when you finally emerge back into public. Some examples include:

"Yeah, I went to that m'NO-ho event. It was the bestest ever!"

"Who's that m'NO-ho webmaster? For some strange reason I feel
compelled to set him up with my good friend, George Clooney!"

     "Long live, m'NO-ho!"
(This one is best employed from the power-
end of a long banquet table, goblet in hand.)

See how easy it is?!

     4. ok, but how does the the monoho website
relate to the monoho Yahoo! Group
?

The monoho Yahoo! Group and the monoho website work
together, but they are not the same thing. Read on!

     About the Yahoo! Group:
Chadley is our lovely moderator for the monoho Yahoo! Group. When you sign up for the Yahoo! Group, well congratulations, you are now officially a member of monoho! See how easy that was?!
The Yahoo! Group acts like a big gay bulletin board. Whenever one of our handsome and industrious members posts a message in the Yahoo! Group, it gets delivered directly to all 300+ members (unless, of course, you have email OCD and have chosen only to  receive the few, occasional, special messages from the moderator.)
Do keep in mind that, as a regular member, you will receive not only the fun messages about dances, films, theater, special bar nights, etc., but also--occasionally-- you will be graced with notices of tag sales, apartments for rent, etc. Sometimes there are a few posts a day, sometimes only a few posts a week, but I wouldn't go developing a new phobia or anything: the benefit of being in the loop certainly outweighs having a few extra emails.

About the website: (the one you are reading right now)
This is where I come in. I diligently scour the Yahoo! Group postings, as well as field direct requests from people in the community, and post relevant events on this website. The advantage of checking back to this website regularly is that I consolidate all of the event information in one easy-on-the-eyes, easy-to-read publication. It's like having an ongoing "Gay Happenings" magazine for the local area.
So (and I'm sure you've figured this part out by now) you should visit this site when you want to check out the gay goings-on for any given day. Keep in mind that I only post general events and activities for the community such as: benefits, dances, social hours, sports activities, theater productions, films, volunteer opportunities, etc. (I do not post things here like tag sales, rooms for rent, etc. -- that's what the Yahoo! Group is for.)
