Dune Boys Volleyball!
Sweaty. Dirty. Fun.
The
best thing going. Every Tuesday night, 6:30 pm, the guys gather to
spike it and slam it all summer long at Maines Field in Florence (a
village of Northampton). Bring your bottle of water, your bare feet,
and your desire to get down and dirty. But fear not, it's a friendly
pick-up game, no pre-set teams: just show up. Look for Mark, or Patrick,
or Chadley, or whoever looks like they should be carrying a
clipboard. Oh, have I mentioned there is a $2 "donation"? C'mon,
what else can you get for two dollars these days? That's right, not
much at all.
Speaking of "not much at all", don't worry: you don't have to take your
shirt off ... unless you want to! :-)
After the game: we all gather at the Brewery, in downtown Northampton, for drinks up on the roofdeck, in the open summer air.
All skills levels are welcome. Come out and play!

MONOHO, ("Men of Northampton"), is an
ever-expanding (ahem!) group of gay men who live, work and play in and around the city of Northampton, Massachusetts.
While Northampton is the social center, there are many activities
nearby, not only in the beautiful mountains of Western Mass, but
also in Southern Vermont, upstate New York, Springfield MA, and
Hartford CT.
Although Northampton has been known--fairly or not--as the "lesbian capital of North America," thousands of gay men visit the area annually. And many of them (both singles and couples), once they've "discovered" this hidden gay mecca, are only too willing to make the move to stay. Many who come are simply tired of the same ol' rat race in the larger cities: the circuit parties, the attitudes, the unbearable burden of having to be so fantastically fabulous all the time, etc., and just want to live a relaxed (but by no means quiet!) life in Western Mass. In addition to the new arrivals, there is also a good population of men who've lived here their whole lives, enjoying all the region has to offer.
With five colleges in the immediate area, there's
not only lots of youthful energy but also tons of culture: live
music, galleries, festivals, independent film, museums, and a wealth
of restaurants to choose from. Plus, with all the surrounding
natural beauty, there are many options for nature-lovers: parks, a
system of bike trails, hiking trails, swimming holes, boating,
kayaking, etc. There are also several organized sports groups for
gay men in the area to help you stay fit (not that you aren't)
and to get to know the locals: Gutterboys
Bowling (fall and winter seasons), Dune Boys Volleyball (summer
months), as well as a gay-friendly softball league.

While
this website gives you a pretty good overview of what's going on
here in Monoho-land, we actually use a Yahoo Group for
specific communications and announcements between members of the
group, as well as for the activities calendar, and as a place to post pictures and files for members to share.
Membership is currently free and is open to gay men over the age of 21. While most members reside within an hour's drive of the Pioneer Valley of Western Mass, we also have members from CT, VT, NY, and elsewhere who are looking for things to do in our area. It is also a great resource for those who will be visiting, as well as those looking to learn more about gay male life here in Western Mass.
To become a member you will need to fill out
two things:
<> A Yahoo Membership form (if you are not already a member) and
<> A Yahoo Profile.
The Yahoo profile should contain a first name, gender and age before
our lovely moderator, Chadley, can approve your membership. Any request to join which does not have this basic information in the profile
might be declined, and you will be asked to try again with specific instructions about what to do.
